Respected Sir,
I have been following the current discussion on the topic of " image of ent in india" over the past couple of days. The response generated by the discussion has inspired me to put up another topic for discussion which is "Plight of DNB Otolaryngology final year students in India". This is dear to my heart as I am a final year DNB postgraduate in Otolaryngology who was due to take up my final exams in June 2010, but with the current change of regulations ( without prior notice) the exams for Otolaryngology has been postponed to December 2010.
I am from a middle economic background striving to complete my degree so that I can immediately start my practice with the hope of a better future. This unexpected delay by 6 months will cost me and my family dearly. I wonder whether the plight of the other final year DNB postgraduates in Otolaryngology is as same as mine. Sometimes I wonder if I have chosen the wrong speciality, since the respect of Otolaryngology in India is not on par with other specialities. I heard the cancellation of the exams in June was done only for the Otolaryngology and Family Medicine, It is very depressing.
I chose Otolaryngology and Head & Neck Surgery with the foresight that it is an evolving field with potential for technical advancements and super specialization. I have also heard that a residency in Otolaryngology abroad is very difficult to get and it is one of the most sought after field, I don't understand why it is not the same here in India.
I would be much obliged if you can either post this email or start this topic for discussion so that opinions can be exchanged.
thanks
with regards
Dr. S. Kamalakannan
DNB ENT Final year student
I am a dnb student was to appear for the exam next year june.My seniors are in the same frame of mind as u are..I agree with u about the sad plight of ENT dnb students and also the step motherly attitude the board has towards the subject..
ReplyDeletehaving done my DLO from a good institution joined dnb immediately so tht i could finish my dnb asap but the "babus of board" seem to not realize its such a struggle to settle in the subject and more so if the exams are delayed.
another point tht i would like to highlight is,those who have joined in Dec-Jan session have not been affected! Do we have to pay for getting in a term early? why dont they regulate the sessioon then, making it Jan for all places throughout the country and henceforth the exam in dec from the nex academic year..tht is fair chance.i hope we get an solution soon before lot more people decide not to take up DNB let alone ENT.
hi everybody,
ReplyDeleteAbroad ENT is a superspecialized branch- allowed only after u have completed basic & advanced surgrical training. They have requisite advanced setup for training of surgeons. They devote themselves in research. They have multiple subspeciality- fellowships in ENT which are all rich in expertise so that one can superhorn ones skills after completing ENT.
Less stress on private practice in Abroad . Govt . infrastructure is proper and health policy is not haphzard like ours.
Well balanced and centred.
not surprised therefore that u are already thinking of starting practice IMMEDIATELY after passing pg ,may be bcos u have no other options , but freind thinking is one thing , doing is totally differnt.
best of luck. DR MUKESH MISHRA.
MY DEAR KAMAL DONT BE SO DISHEARTENED THAT YOU HAVE TAKEN UP ENT DNB.ENT FOR PRACTISE IS A VERY GOOD SUBJECT IF ONLY U HAVE THE ABILITY TO CONVINCE THE PATIENTS THAT ALL ENT PROBLEMS ARE FOR LIFE LONG--NOT CURABLE BUT CONTROLLABLE.JUST LIKE DIABETES,ASTHMA,THYROID AND SO ON
ReplyDeletem fully with dr kamalkannan. why only ENT. new rules sud b applicable for new batch.

ReplyDeleteI fully agree with this DNB student,We are doing great damage to our budding ENT Surgeons by treating them harshly. DNB Office May be Conveyed this in no uncertain term to look into these problems from candidates point of view.

What ever decision is taken is really bad and should be opposed by ENT surgeons as it was without prior notice to the DNB students. Not only that in future also we all should unite to gether and convey to authority that we can not tolerate such things.
Any way can I also know how to join DNB and where are the seats and how many seats of DNB are availabel in India? I have a student who will complete DLO soon.

Dear Kamalakannan
Its true ent is still choice at low level during consideration at entrance level
postponing of dnb exams coulb b 2 to any speciality
bt that shouldnt matter of concern for taking the branch on low side
in our country still people of ent fratinity r doing at their best giving pride 2 branch
the only thing which all of us require is dedication to the branch and no criticisism to surgical tech to our colleagues
there is no mistake with the branch
still so big room to do the things
take it on positive side
after compelting 3 years in residency u r elligible for s r ship as per mci ruling
dont worry v ll pray for birght future

You rightly said , the whole medical education in india is bullshit , there is no regulation about its quality. teaching and training is poor, the concept of DNB is questionable , they start it anywhere , they say there eam pettern is good , but in reality its ridiculus, each time they come up with somethng silly , there is no point in writing , or discussing your issue anywhere , because nobody can help you , this country has lost its system , nobody will listen to you , because people who take decisions know very well that noone can touch them , you should go to court against DNB , and pray from god for help , because this country is running by god only , ideally we should scrap DNB , because it has lost its meaning

i am also a final year DNB student. I am agree with him. i think our brach big celebrities are sleeping or busy in our self. The passing rates are also very poor in DNB, but nobody is taking action against this board. Is realy worth full to run such type of academic board where the result are poorer than all over world institution or board. I think the aim of this board is only the recieve fund not to provide degree.
ReplyDeleteIAM DNB 3YR, DELHI. I AGREE WITH U. dnb BOARD IS NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING. wE, IN DELHI WANT TO MEET DNB PRESIDENT, DR. REDDY BUT HE IS NOT GIVING APPOINTMENT. WE R PLANNING TO MEET DR. GHULAM NABI AZAD, HEALTH & FAMILY WELFARE MINISTER. COURT CASE IS ALSO A OPTION. BUT NOBODY IS COMING FORWARD.IF ALL THE ENT DNB CAME TOGETHER, THEN ONLY SOMETHING IS POSSIBLE. SENIORS R NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING. WE GET ONLY SYMPATHY & ENCOURAGEMENT. WE KNOW ALL THE FACTS OF dnb - ITS PASSING RATE. SUPPOSE SOMEBODY CAN'T ABLE TO PASS IN 1 ATTEMPT, HE HAS TO WAIT FOR 1 YEAR TO REAPPEAR IN EXAM. SO ALL 1ST,2ND & 3RD YEAR HAS TO COME FORWARD. PLEASE CONTACT ME ON 9953093990 IF ANY FURTHER PLANNING
