I was associated with Dr VP Sood's Rhinoplasty Workshops for many years in Delhi. As
you know, he passed away recently. Dr Sood had been conducting these courses &
workshops for about 35 years. In his last mail to me he encouraged me to start these
workshops in Hyderabad. Hence, this workshop will be conducted in memory of Dr V P
Sood, who created significant awareness about rhinoplasty surgery among ENT

Basavanagudi ent care Centre is one of the premier ent institutes in India. We are conducting live ear surgery work shop for the last 14 years. Now we are very happy to announce that we are conducting week end hands WEEK-END on temporal bone dissection course, these courses are offered throughout the year with prior appointment. One or two candidates are accepted for each course. These courses will be guided by doyen of otology Dr.A.MAHADEVAIAH and other senior ENT surgeons. It is a two day course. It is divided into category A and category B. In category A we provide one wet temporal bone and the following exercises will be taught.

It is our privilege to invite you for a workshop on Endoscopic Endonasal Skull Base Surgery from 26th to 28th April 2013. As you all are well aware, endoscopic nasal surgery has grown in leaps and bounds from just merely sinus surgery to surgery of the skull base. The nasal corridor helps to access well selected lesions of anterior , middle and posterior cranial base and also C1 & C2 vertebra. The access includes laterally, the pterygopalatine and infratemporal fossae. Orbital lesions medial and inferior to the optic nerve are also accessed through the nasal corridor. The intricate anatomy has been meticulously described by Prof Amin Kassam and Prof Ricardo Carrau amongst a few others throughout the world through their articles and visits all over the globe.
We are indeed fortunate that world renowned – PROF AMIN KASSAM has accepted our invitation to visit the beautiful and historic city of Jaipur. We will also have with us our own – PROF DHARAMBIR SETHI & PROF M. V. KIRTANE. Our objective remains to show you all the entire spectrum of anatomy and approaches through lectures, live surgery sessions as also demonstration of cadaveric dissection. The Department of Otorhinolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, KMC Mangalore, are sending a second call regarding our endoscopic sinus surgery workshop, SINOCON KMC 2013, to be conducted on the 12th and 13th of April 2013. To share with us their experiences in this field, we have with us, pioneers in the subject, Dr Thulasi Das (Chennai), Dr T.N. Janakiram (Trichy), and Dr Neelam Vaid (Pune). 1st facial plastic surgery course being organized in the country designed to cover the entire spectrum of facial plastic surgery.
Intensive 3 day hands on course jointly conducted by International and national otolaryngology,facial plastic surgeons.
15 dissectors will be trained with special focus to help develop the branch of facial plastic surgery in their practise.
30 observers will get a chance to assist the dissectors during the dissection.
3 final year postgraduates in otolaryngology, head and neck surgery will be selected for Waiver Grants to attend the course as dissectors.
Limited number of delegate entries to ensure maximum one on one interaction.
Surgical stalls related to facial plastic surgery will be set up for buying equipment directly
Advanced skills lab at MSR medical college is the only facility in the country equipped for fresh frozen cadaver demonstrations and hands on dissection.

As you already know, We are overwhelmed by the attendance at our workshops, which have always stayed overbooked. The January workshop slots filled up within 3 days of its announcement. Due to increasing requests we have decided to conduct another workshop in February. It gives me great pleasure that our workshop with its high regards is now awarded 21 credit hours by IMA. It is happy to see so many foreign delegates participating in every workshop of ours. Abstract
OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS:
Acute invasive fungal sinusitis (AIFS) is an aggressive and often fatal infection. Despite improvements in medical and surgical therapy, survival remains limited and the factors that contribute to patient outcomes remain poorly understood. The current study systematically reviews and quantitatively synthesizes the published literature to characterize prognostic factors associated with survival.
STUDY DESIGN:
Systematic review.
METHODS:
Fifty-two studies comprising a total of 807 patients met inclusion criteria and were used for analysis of treatment, presentation, and outcomes. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression was used to identify prognostic factors.
RESULTS:
All studies were classified as level 4 evidence, as per definitions provided by the Oxford Center for Evidence-Based Medicine. The most common presenting symptoms of patients with AIFS were facial swelling (64.5%), fever (62.9%), and nasal congestion (52.2%). Most patients were treated with a combination of intravenous antifungal medication and surgery. The overall survival rate was 49.7%. On univariate analysis, poor prognosis was associated with renal/liver failure, altered mental status, and intracranial extension. Patients who were diabetic, had surgery, or received liposomal amphotericin B had an improved chance of survival. On multivariate analysis, advanced age and intracranial involvement were identified as independent negative prognostic factors. Positive prognostic factors again included diabetes and surgical resection.
CONCLUSIONS:
The overall mortality of patients with AIFS remains high, with only half of the patients surviving. Diabetic patients appear to have a better overall survival than patients with other comorbidities. Patients who have intracranial involvement, or who do not receive surgery as part of their therapy, have a poor prognosis. Laryngoscope, 2012.
